Horrorshow...

Au sujet du single 'Horrorshow' des Scars (mars 1979, produit par Bob Last, sorti sur le label Fast) :

" Before we get on to 'Horrorshow', a quick word about Fast and its far-sighted boss, Bob Last. Last discovered The Human League, Gang of Four, The Mekons and The Fire Engines, and put out a set of singles between 1978 and 1981 so extreme, prophetic and whole that you imagined Fast as some self-contained planet located conveniently in Edinburgh. It was as important as an indie label as Rough Trade, Postcard or Creation, and Last certainly had more adventure and foresight than Alan McGee.

Scars were four Edinburgh teens (Bobby King, Paul Research, John Mackie and Calumn MacKay) who remain utterly obscure. This is probably because, when they signed to a major label after this single's initial impact, they bewildered even the most open-minded new waver by reciting nuclear panic poems over rubbery jangle-pop while smothered in a riot of new romantic clothes and make-up that even Adam Ant would have rejected as a bit too panto. Nevertheless, their first single is the single most violent record of the post-punk era - as eloquent a summing-up of Kubrick's film of Burgess's A Clockwork Orange as The Normal managed for J.G. Ballard. Based on a malevolent mix of strolling beat, stalking bassline and toothache string-bending one-note guitar, it goes through as much of the story as it can manage in three minutes while occasionnally descending into a haze of screaming threats in Scots accents and glistening guitar chaos. Kubrick would probably have banned it too, given the chance. "

Garry Mulholland, extrait de This is uncool.

...et comptez pas sur moi pour traduire sa prose...! En plus, je vais au concert de Junkyard à Malakoff, et je suis en retard...
